“America 250: A Celebration in Song,” Tar River Orchestra, Tar River Chorus, and NC Master Chorale, Saturday, November 7, 7:30 PM, The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts

Join the Tar River Orchestra, Tar River Chorus, and North Carolina Master Chorale for a stirring celebration of America's 250th anniversary. This powerful concert honors our nation's history, ideals, and enduring spirit through some of the most beloved works in the American choral and orchestral repertoire.

The program features Aaron Copland's uplifting The Promise of Living, John Williams' moving Hymn to the Fallen, Howard Hanson's majestic Song of Democracy, and beloved American folk and patriotic melodies including Shenandoah, Simple Gifts, My Country, 'Tis of Thee, and America the Beautiful. Performed by more than 150 musicians and singers, this inspiring evening will celebrate the people, landscapes, sacrifices, and freedoms that have shaped the American story.

Celebrate the season with the Tar River Swing Band as they put a swinging spin on your favorite Christmas classics. Filled with festive favorites, toe-tapping rhythms, and holiday cheer, Unwrap the Jazz is the perfect way to kick off your Christmas celebrations.

“The Beatles: Sergeant Pepper & Abbey Road” Tar River Orchestra with Jeans ‘n Classics, Saturday, February 13, 7:30 PM, The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts

Celebrate Valentine's weekend with an unforgettable evening of timeless music as the Tar River Orchestra joins forces with the acclaimed artists of Jeans 'N Classics to perform two of The Beatles' most iconic albums: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. Experience beloved songs including "Come Together," "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and more, brought to life with the power of a live orchestra, rock band, and vocalists. Make it a complete night out with a special pre-concert reception featuring drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres before the performance (separate ticket required).

“Passages: A Year in Story and Song,” Saturday, March 13: Tar River Chorus, First Baptist Church

“Life isn’t built from the moments we plan; it is built from the moments we encounter.”

Follow the brilliant unfolding of a calendar year through unexpected intersections of music and moment. From Renaissance and Classical gems to light jazz and beloved pop favorites, a diverse array of choral music spanning centuries becomes part of a single trip around the sun. A compelling original story written especially for this concert is shared by actor Evelyn McCauley, intertwining with the music to trace a young artist’s walk through twelve months of her life. More than a choral concert, Passages invites its audience to experience the chords and cadences we all share.

“Tchaikovsky Discovers America” Tar River Orchestra with Classical Kids LIVE!, Friday, April 16,       7:00 PM, The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts

Join the Tar River Orchestra and the actors of Classical Kids LIVE for a delightful musical adventure the whole family will enjoy. Based on Tchaikovsky's historic 1891 visit to America for the opening of Carnegie Hall, this engaging production follows the famed composer as he explores a new world, reflects on his life in Russia, and discovers newfound courage through an unexpected friendship. Featuring more than twenty-five excerpts from Tchaikovsky's greatest works—including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, the 1812 Overture, and the First Piano Concerto—this unique blend of theater, storytelling, ballet, and live orchestral music brings history and classical music to life. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
