October 16, “Broadway to Beethoven”, Tar River Orchestra, 7:30 PM at Dunn Center
Everything’s Coming Up Roses as the Tar River Orchestra returns to the concert hall for our season opener, “Broadway to Beethoven”. Come enjoy selections from the Broadway Musical “Gypsy” and marvel as NCWC basketball star Tyler Spence performs the first movement of Grieg's beloved piano concerto. The program will conclude with Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 2.
November 5, “The Song Arising—Inspirational Music for Our Times”, Tar River Chorus with the Carolina Brass, 7:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount
The Tar River Chorus begins its season with “The Song Arising—Inspirational Music for Our Times”. This program will feature uplifting and inspirational songs such as “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “Climb Every Mountain”, and “What A Wonderful World”. The chorus will be accompanied by North Carolina’s premier brass quintet, The Carolina Brass who will also perform selections of Classical, Dixieland, Jazz, and Patriotic music.
December 3, “A Festive Christmas”, Tar River Children’s Chorus, Tar River Adult Chorus & Youth Strings Concert, 7:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount
The Tar River Children’s Chorus and Youth Strings along with special guest, the Tar River Chorus will start your Christmas celebration with beauty and joy. Join us for an evening of classic and popular Christmas music with our areas’ best musicians, young and old.
December 14, “Swingin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, Tar River Swing Band, 7:30 PM at Dunn Center
Join the Tar River Swing Band as we celebrate Christmas with popular holiday tunes in a Swingin’ style as well as some traditional swing tunes you know and love!
March 19, “Hello Spring”, Tar River Orchestra, 2 PM and 3:15 PM at the Imperial Center Theater
Join us for our FREE family concert as the orchestra presents, “Hello Spring”. Family friendly selections including “Where’s Red Robin”, with guest narrator, and classics like Vivaldi’s “Spring” will entertain and educate both young and old alike. Concertgoers can visit the Children’s Museum for FREE before and after the concert. Reserve your FREE ticket by contacting the Imperial Center after January 1, 2022.
April 22, “Songs for the Journey”, Tar River Chorus, 7:30 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
Meander along the path with us as the Tar River Chorus shares “Songs for the Journey” this spring. Selections will include “Sentimental Journey”, “Over the Rainbow”, “Loch Lomond”, “The Road Home” and many more.
May 5, “Swing ‘n Strings—Take 2!”, Tar River Swing Band with Tar River Orchestra strings, 7:30 PM at the Dunn Center
Featuring vocal hits that you can sing along with, this concert will showcase familiar Big Band Swing from members of the Rat Pack such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and more! Bring a friend and come relax as you listen to the toe-tapping melodies of the Tar River Swing Band with an extra touch of PIZAZZ from our orchestra strings.

April 2, “Blood, Sweat, & Tears, Earth, Wind, & Fire…And a Little Chicago”, Tar River Orchestra with Jeans ‘n Classics, 7:30 PM at the Dunn Center
Rocky Mount will ROCK when renowned band and vocalists from the Canadian based group Jeans ‘n Classics join the Tar River Orchestra for an unforgettable evening of R&B, Soul & Pop hits from the classic horn bands the 70’s: Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, and Blood Sweat & Tears. You’ll groove to the timeless tunes like “Boogie Wonderland”, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “Spinning Wheel”. Don’t miss this amazing live concert experience!
