“An Evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein,” Tar River Orchestra, Saturday, September 28, 7:30 PM, The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts
Rocky Mount is alive with “The Sound of Music”. Spend an evening with the Tar River Orchestra as we perform beloved classics from the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein, including South Pacific, Carousel, Oklahoma and The Sound of Music. This promises to be “Some Enchanted Evening” as we bring to life some of the greatest music from the golden age of the American Musical Theater. Also, on the program will be music written by Richard Rodgers for the post WWII television documentary “Victory at Sea”, as well as our young artist concerto competition winner, violinist, Stephanie Suedbeck.

“Carolina Ties,” Tar River Chorus & Chamber Orchestra with special guests, Carolina Choral Artists; Saturday, November 2, 7:30 PM, First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount
The Tar River Chorus and North Carolina Choral Artists, accompanied by a large chamber orchestra, serve up a truly historic evening of music with ties to North Carolina...including two thrilling premieres! Under the direction of James Mauk, NCCA – a professional ensemble from Eastern North Carolina – will perform several selections before teaming up with Tar River Chorus to perform the North Carolina premiere of conductor Michael J. Glasgow's riveting Gloria. We are also honored to share the live-performance world premiere of Arctic Circles, a stunning work composed by the late McCanna "Mac" Sinise (son of actor Gary Sinise). Join us for an evening of powerful music!

Join us as music beautifully sung by our talented Tar River Children's Chorus and highlighted with the sound of our youth in Tar River Strings bids us to stop and savor our blessings during this Christmas season. Lovely arrangements of carols, ancient and modern as well as familiar, secular Christmas songs will spark memories that brighten our hearts and give us a chuckle. “Remember When Rock Was Young: The Music of Elton John,” Tar River Orchestra with Craig Meyer and the Rocket Band, Saturday, March 1, 7:30 PM, The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts
The Tar River Orchestra is joined by Elton John tribute artist, Craig Meyer, and Rocket Band for this one of a kind musical experience. Craig Meyer is considered to be the best Elton John tribute artist in the market, whose strong vocals, striking resemblance and amazing talent on the piano has audiences everywhere remembering when rock was young. This spectacular musical journey celebrates the decades of chart topping hits by Sir Elton John including: “Benny and the Jets,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Candle in the Wind,” and MORE! A celebration of the character, costumes, and charisma of the famed pianist and singer, Meyer’s fully produced show has captivated audiences throughout the United States and abroad. Join the Tar River Chorus for a unique concert of pieces centered around the theme of time. Accompanied by piano and strings, the Chorus will present a very diverse and eclectic array of music ranging from "classical" to "pop" (and most places in between). You can start guessing from now what selections may be on the program (and you'll probably get at least one correct!), but you need to come to the show to discover all we have in store for this fun and inspiring evening.
