About Us

The 2023-24 season marks the 38th year of Tar River Choral & Orchestral Society’s musical

performances in Rocky Mount, NC and the surrounding region. Founded in 1986, the

Tar River Orchestra and Chorus is dedicated to sustaining live local music by providing

opportunities for professional and highly skilled local musicians to perform together and provide

a forum for young people to learn how to exercise their singing and learn to play string instruments.

Five musical groups provide unique performances for adults and children. Musicianship is on par

with that found in much larger cities. Audiences are presented a wide range of musical repertoire.

Our Mission is…

To ENRICH the quality of life in the community by strengthening and promoting the cultural arts

through choral and instrumental music programs and by providing community members

an opportunity to participate in music making.

To EDUCATE through programs such as the Tar River Children’s Chorus, Youth Strings,

and educational concerts for NRMS students.

To ENTERTAIN the community or Rocky Mount and surrounding areas by providing outstanding

concert experiences.
