Young Artist Competition

**Due to COVID-19 concerns, the 2020 Young Artist Competition has been canceled.

The Young Artist Competition is an annual competition hosted by the Tar River Orchestra and Chorus.  The winner performs with the orchestra during the following season and receives a $500 scholarship. The rules are as follows:

  • The competition is open to students ages 10-18 years old.
  • The applicant will perform one movement of a concerto accompanied by a pianist. The concerto will not exceed 20 minutes. Vocalists may perform 2 selections.
  • Memorization is recommended but not required.
  • The contestant will be required to bring two numbered copies of the score for the judges.
  • The decision of the judges will be final.
  • All contestants will be notified by phone at the conclusion of the auditions.
  • The winner must agree to be available to rehearse and perform with the orchestra during the 2021-2022 season.
