2017-2018 Live Concert Season Announced

The Tar River Orchestra and Chorus is entering their thirty-second season with a full schedule of live performances for the 2017-2018 “Tar River Live” Concert Season. The season tickets, now available, include five concerts. One additional event is scheduled as an add-on option.

October 14, Tar River Orchestra, Dunn Center, 7:30 PM: “Saluting our Superheroes”; Join the Tar River Orchestra for a celebratory concert as we honor our city’s first responders. Enjoy heroic music combined with superhero themes you know and love! All first responders will be admitted free!

November 18, Tar River Swing Band, Dunn Center, 7:30 PM: “Something Old, Something New, and Definitely Some Blues”; Join the Tar River Swing Band as they perform the old swing classics you love along with some new favorites.

December 8, Tar River Children’s Chorus, Fellowship Church in Nashville, NC, 7:30 PM: “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”; Our award-winning Tar River Children’s Chorus, Youth Strings, along with the Tar River String Quartet will again usher us into a wonderful Christmas season. The whole family from young to old will enjoy favorite popular Christmas songs and beautiful settings of traditional carols, including Dan Forrest’s new treble arrangement of “See Amid the Winter Snow”, co-commissioned by our own Tar River Children’s Chorus. Come join us for a lovely evening!

April 29, Tar River Orchestra, Dunn Center, 3 PM: “Sorcerer and the Symphony”; Don’t miss the orchestra’s family concert as we team up with the Carolina Opry’s own magician, Brandon Wagster. Brandon will dazzle the audience with amazing illusions while the orchestra performs magical selections including the music from “Harry Potter”.

June 2, Tar River Orchestra & Choruses, Crocker Farm, 6 PM: “Soulful Summer at the Farm”; Start your summer with our annual outdoor concert at the Crocker Farm. The orchestra and choruses will be joined by a special guest artist to be announced. This is sure to be a night of toe-tapping fun complete with food and fun activities for kids.

Individual tickets for each concert are $15 for adults, or $65 per season ticket which includes all five shows. Children 18 and under, and college students with ID are admitted to each concert at no charge.

In addition to the performances in the season ticket package, tickets will be sold separately for the The St. Patricks Day Concert on March 17, 2018 at Benvenue Country Club.

The Tar River Orchestra and Choral Society was founded in Rocky Mount in 1986 and has grown to include a professional philharmonic orchestra, symphonic band, swing band, adult chorus and children’s chorus, and youth strings.
